This offseason, a change was made that will forever make Chiefs fans sad to think about. Anthony Sherman, the Chiefs long-time veteran full-back, decided to retire this offseason.

Of course, he will be missed, especially during training camp. Everyone loves his training camp entrances, and they will be missed. However, he made a decision for himself and his family. That is something that cannot be taken away from him negatively.

Anthony Sherman was an important part of the Chiefs offense with Andy Reid. He was involved in the ‘West Coast’ style and even used to score every now and then.

Now, the Chiefs have found a replacement for Sherman. Mike Burton, formerly of the Saints, is ready to be a Chiefs and is excited for the season already.

Burton Replaces Sherman for Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are not much of a running team. However, they do use the full-back in a lot of their schemes and sets. Anthony Sherman was a massive part of the offense and will easily be missed due to his ability to help however needed.

Sherman can catch, block, and run, so he really was the whole package. There was a point in time where he was one of the best, if not the best, full-backs in the NFL.

Michael Burton may not have the resume that Sherman does, but he had a fantastic 2020 season. Burton has played just six years in the NFL for four different franchises, making Kansas City his fifth.

Burton started his career in Detroit in 2015, where he actually played tight end. In 2017, Burton joined the Chicago Bears, where he would play 24 games in two years. However, he was not used much until he joined the Saints in 2020.

Burton was a key part in blocking for their dynamic running backs. Michael Burton blocked for guys like Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray.

While he does not do much pass-catching, he does do a lot of blocking. If there is anything we learned from the Super Bowl, Mahomes needs more blocking.
