The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the most explosive offenses that the NFL has ever seen. With Patrick Mahomes at the wheel, and Andy Reid calling the shots, there are not many things this offense can’t do. That is exactly why the Chiefs went out and got Jerick McKinnon, the former San Francisco running back.

Some of you may be asking why the Chiefs would do this signing and why does this help Kansas City so much? Well, those are some great questions, and it is right to ask that about a guy who is now on his third team over the last three years.

However, as a backup or a special teams player, McKinnon could add a ton of value to Kansas City. With Clyde Edwards-Helaire as the new star running back in town, he may need a backup every now and then. Luckily, McKinnon is very good at that specific job.

McKinnon Adds Flare to Chiefs Offense

Jerick McKinnon will add something to the Chiefs they have not had in a while. A great running back group consists of more than just a great starting back and the backups. Now, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel Williams, and Jerick McKinnon in the backfield, the Chiefs have depth at that position.

They also have something else that they have not had in a while, which would be speed on the bench. The Chiefs have power and speed now. Edwards-Helaire is known for his ability to run through tackles and add a bit of speed with pass-catching ability. Darrel Williams is also a power running back who had a great playoff run.

Jerick McKinnon was a part of the speedy backfield in San Francisco with Mostert and company. McKinnon is familiar with the Chiefs, though, as he was on the 49ers squad that played against Kansas City in the Super Bowl.

There are some concerns about McKinnon, however. He tends to be hurt quite often, which is not entirely his fault, but the Chiefs dealt with injuries all last season and didn’t want to go through that again.

However, the Chiefs are going to use his skill set to the best of their advantages, as they always do. Kansas City will be back and better than ever next season. We can expect to see the offense running well, especially with the addition of McKinnon.
